With the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, the Supreme Court has gone from a 5-4 conservative majority to an even split between left and right. Since a justice nominated by President Barack Obama is certain to shift the court to liberal or moderate control, the Senate's Republican leaders say they will not consider any selection he makes, with a year left in his final term. So the results of the coming presidential and Senate elections will determine the ideological control of the court, at a time it is considering several major issues.
